Concepts

  1. In the ASEAN Economic Community of 2016 several employment restrictions will be relaxed, and there will be opportunities for professionals in many fields of work to further their careers in a different ASEAN country. As this will mean that the workforce of every nation could become more integrated with more foreign employees in the workplace professionals should be proficient in English.
  2. As the workforce of the 10 ASEAN nations becomes more multi-national regarding the employment of foreigners, or people from the other ASEAN countries, there will be a greater need for communication skills in English to greet and deal with foreign visitors.
  3. With more foreign visitors and professional employees in the ASEAN countries, the chances of dealing with customers using English will increase from 2015.
  4. People working with foreign colleagues in the AEC will need to know some useful vocabulary and various phrases that are often used in the workplace.

Objectives

After studying this module, the students will be able to

  1. interact and communicate in English more effectively with both colleagues and bosses.
  2. greet and assist foreign visitors using English in their place of work.
  3. assist customers using English.
  4. use work-related English vocabulary and phrases.
